"There are only two things in this world that are for certain, death and taxes"
Have you ever heard the statement, "There are only two things in this world that are for certain, death and taxes"? Although we do not want to even think about either, they are something we need to face. Estate planning will help ease the burden of both.
There are some myths that many people believe about estate planning such as 'Only rich people prepare estate plans' or 'Everything goes to your spouse if something happens'. If you own anything it is so important to have a will. This allows you to designate who will receive your property should anything happen. Going without one could mean that your property might go to family members you with which you have not spoken in years.
Also, without a will, not everything does go to your spouse. It depends on your state's law. In some states the inheritance will be divided among your spouse and children. This can be a real burden on your spouse if he or she was dependent on you or if you have children from a previous marriage.
Something to think about...
